Youth In Action 2008

Day 1 - 28 July 2008

The first day was very actionpacked. We played a lot of games: different kinds of namegames and tongue twisters ( we also recorded them on camera). My personal favourite was the toilet roll game. We had to tear off as many pieces of paper as we wanted. Then we had to give the same number of pieces of information of ourselves. It was very funny. :)

Day 2 - 29 July 2008

We watched the presentations and short films about Ajka and Rovaniemi. The Hungarian participants introduced Ajka, Hungary and its culture, music and fashion life to the Finnish delegation. The Finnish participants had a powerpoint presentation about their Youth Club and we also watched a funny film about Rovaniemi.

In the afternoon we went for a "short" walk. We discovered the neighbourhood. It was baking hot.

Day 3 - 30 July 2008

It was one of the busiest days. In the morning we took part in the silly games competitions, while others were playing at the table tennis and badminton championship. Then we gave an interview to the local TV of Ajka.

After lunch the photographer of the regional newspaper "Napló" came to take a few photos of us. We felt very important with all the media attention we got. :)

In the afternoon we organized our International Cuisine Show. Because of the hot weather we decided to create something light. We opted for fruit salad and mixed vegetable salad. The Finnish participants were responsible for the dessert. We were given cloudberry jam with ice-cream. We could also taste their special biscuit they eat at Christmas: pipari. And the famous salmiakki had a very very strange flavour. :)

In the evening our headteacher came to visit us and had a short meeting with the Finnish groupleaders.

Day 4 - 31 July 2008

We had to get up very early, as our train left for Budapest at 7.15 am. We had a good sleep on the train, though. First we went to the Hungarian National Museum where the Finnish participants had a quiz about Hungary. The Hungarian participants helped them a lot. Then we went to the Castle District to see the beautiful panorama of Budapest. It was a very tiring but memorable day.

Day 5 - 01 August 2008

We started the preparations for the Drama Festival. The Hungarian group wrote two short stories. One of them was about the stereotypes foreigners have in their minds about Hungary. The other story highlighted a real problem in Hungary, namely the growing number of overweight teenagers. The Finnish group also produced two short stories. Their first production was (surprise, surprise) about the stereotypes people think what Finland might be like. The other story was a teenager love problem from their Youth Club. The rehearsals were spent in good spirits. We laughed our heads off.

Day 6 - 02 August 2008

The big day, the Drama Festival. We performed our mini dramas at the local beach of Káptalanfüred. The parents of the Hungarian participants came to see their kids. Local people were also watching our productions. After the mini festival everybody felt relieved.

In the evening we said goodbye. It was a tearful moment to see Finnish and Hungarian participants hugging each other in tears. It was really moving.

But watch out Finland! We are coming! See you next April in Rovaniemi!
